Holy Saturday Devotional

“On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.” - Luke 23:56b

The Sabbath after Jesus’ crucifixion must have been filled with tension, grief, and uncertainty. The disciples had witnessed the unthinkable—Jesus, the One they believed to be the Messiah, now lay in a tomb. Yet, in obedience, they honored the Sabbath, setting aside the day to worship the Almighty God.

This was their even if moment. Even if they didn’t understand, even if hope seemed lost, even if their hearts were heavy with doubt—they still chose to obey, to worship, and to wait.

We all face seasons of waiting, where the promises of God seem distant. But just as the disciples remained faithful, we are called to trust God in the in-between—the space between death and resurrection, between the trial and the breakthrough.

What is your “even if” moment? Will you choose to trust God in the waiting? Take time today to worship, even when you don’t see the outcome yet. Sunday is coming.

“I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope.” – Psalm 130:5

Personal Reflection

What does it look like to worship God in the waiting? How can you honor Him even when you don’t see the outcome yet?

Family Reflection

Kids: The disciples worshiped God even when they were sad and didn’t understand what was happening. What are some ways we can worship and trust God, even when things don’t go the way we expect?

Students: How can we worship and trust God, even when things don’t go the way we expect? Is there anything you need to trust God with to experience his rest and peace?

Prayer Prompt: Lord, in the seasons where I don't fully understand or see Your plan, help me to trust You. Like the disciples who rested in obedience on that Sabbath, even in their grief and uncertainty, I choose to trust You in my "even if" moments. I surrender my doubts and fears, and I wait in hope for the fulfillment of Your promises. Teach me to worship You in the waiting and to rest in Your perfect timing. Help me to remember that Sunday is coming, and Your victory is certain. Amen.
