What Does the Bible Say about Birth Control?
If you are looking for a passage in the Bible that tells you when or if to have kids, how many kids to have, and whether or not you should use birth control, you aren’t likely to find one. What you will find, however, are the following two principles: 1) All human life is sacred (Ps. 139: 13-14); and 2) Children are a gift from the Lord (Ps. 127:3-5). Working out from those two principles, it seems wise to say that any contraceptive method designed to terminate life after conception is out of bounds for Christ-followers. Moreover, if we are actively trying to prevent having children, we need to pray and consider carefully our reasons for doing so. Our goal should be to see children the way the Lord sees them—as a gift and a blessing, not a hassle or inconvenience.
