How Could A Loving God Send People To Hell?
It’s one of the more difficult questions to answer in the Christian faith: if “God is love,” how could he send people to hell? Some have responded by simply saying that hell is not a real place or that, if it is, God simply doesn’t send anyone there. Rather, all people end up going to heaven. But these positions don’t accord with what Scripture clearly teaches: that those who have been saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ spend eternity with God, and those haven’t are still dead in their sins and spend eternity separated from him in a real place of punishment called hell. The issue is not with God, but with us. Will we let God be love, define what love is, and also be a just God who punishes wrongdoing, or we will force him into our own paradigm that doesn’t allow for a loving God who hates sin? When Scripture and our preference part ways, which one we will follow?
